Okay...so 10 on Wednesday

I guess I owe 20, but seriously... not so much right now!

  1. We are sick.  Elijah was diagnosed with a major ear infection and early onset pneumonia.  Can I say that this kid is tough.  When I saw his ear at the doc's, I could not believe that he wasn't hurting. His ear drum was completely swollen.  Poor guy.  He had a fever that topped out at 104.5.  He is on the mend, but still can only do small amounts of playing at a time.  On a god note, he is sleeping GREAT!  Gracie has the cold that Elijah had before he got sick.  She also has some GI issue, but we think she maybe had too much dairy over the past few days.  Jerry and I are just tired... and we have the cold too.  GROSS!
  2. Grace's birthday prep is almost done.  I have one last thing to purchase and we will be ready.  The theme is ladybugs.  I think it will be super fun!   I hope that the friends enjoy it.  We decided to purchase a small doll house for her birthday.  She got one for Christmas, but it was so big and she couldn't really move it herself.  So we donated that one and got her one that is smaller and can be broken down to fit in a special bag.
  3. This Friday the local strawberry farm opens for U pick!  I'm excited that this is happening right before we leave for the mountains.  We will go pick and take some strawberries with us!
  4. We are leaving Saturday for a week in the mountains!!!!!
  5. Friday is also Jerry's first softball game of the season.  We can't wait to go cheer him on!  The kids have taken an interest in the game, so it will be fun to watch Dadu play!
  6. I have gotten lots done around the house this week.  Being forced to stay home does that to you... and drives you a little batty.
  7. I start training for my job next week.  It sucks a little that I will be in the mountains and have to work, but at least I have the luxury of working from home.  I will be grading tests again this year.  I am curious to see what kind of question I will get this year.  Last years made me a little sad, but paid well.  This is good timing as I will get my last pay check right before we leave for June vacation!
  8. June vacation consists of going to Edisto Island with my folks for a week and then heading to the mountains for another 5! Very excited!  I signed the kiddos up for swimming again and we have lots of other things planned!
  9. We have decided to stay in this house until Jerry finishes Grad School.  It's not my dream, but who knows what 1) the market will be like in 2.5 years and 2) what kind of job offers Jerry may get after finishing school.  So we will stay put and work on this house...convert the garage to livable space, make the outside more livable, insulate the ceilings, make the attic more attic-y with sub-floor, etc.  I feel good about this choice and I feel like it's one thing that is now in my control, which I have needed lately.
  10. We got an invitation to Elijah's kindergarten orientation. *SOB*  I called the school we wanted him to attend, but he has only moved up 3 spaces to 13, so I am guessing he won't get in this year.  Alas.  He is excited to go to the orientation at his kindergarten though and I am weeping over it excited for him.  He will do well where ever he ends up, I have no doubt.  We are involved parents and he is a smart kid. With these two things we are armed and more than ready for kindergarten!  I just can't believe he is old enough to go!
  11. And a bonus for skipping last week:  Got my test results back.  I am allergic to nothing.  Sigh. I go back to the doc at the end of May.  Probably I will have to see a GI person, but we will discuss cardiac possibilities as well, as some cardiac issues disguise themselves as GI issues, especially in women.  And since cardiac issues run in my family, maybe there is something there??  I hope that nothing is wrong with me in that occasionally I get horribly sick for a day and am incapacitated for 36 hours.  We'll see.
  12. second bonus:  Finished the Hunger Games and thought they TOTALLY rocked!!!  I hope that they do the movies justice!
Okay that is all for today.  The children are watching a movie and I need to convince them to take a nap (cause I need one!!)  Hope to be back next week!!

A Catch Up Post

We’ll start at Easter and go from there…
We spent Easter with Jerry’s family.  All his siblings were there.  We got to meet both new nephews (Lisa and Matthew both have new baby boys) and spend time with everyone catching up.  We decided to stay over night and celebrate the whole weekend.  It was nice to not have to drive.  However, Jerry did forget his C-PAP, but a quick stop at the drug store for earplugs, a dose of some high octane allergy meds (the pollen here this year was HORRID!) and sleeping on other sides of the room made it bearable.  The weekend was quite successful, though hot and pollen-y.  The kids need to be exposed to their cousins more often and I’m glad they had a chance to spend more than one day with them this time around.

I can’t believe that I didn’t get a full family photo… Alas.  Hopefully, we will all be back together before next Easter.

I had a birthday and celebrated it with my friend Kristie.  Since our birthdays are only separated by a day, why not celebrate together.   We were blessed with some good friends to celebrate and some yummy fondue!

After Grace’s birthday party, Jerry and I went away on vacation… by.our.selves. for.four.days.  My folks took the kids and headed to Myrtle Beach.  We took ourselves and headed…to Myrtle Beach.  We were a good 20 minutes away from each other!    The kids got some awesome Oma and Opa time and we got some awesome together without kids time!  Everyone survived and flourished and we can’t wait to do it again!!!

At the end of May, Jerry took a day off and we headed up to Asheboro to the zoo.  It was boiling lava hot, the animals were mostly sleeping, BUT it was a GREAT trip!  We stayed overnight and swam in the pool and walked forever at the zoo and it was amazing simply to be away from home and with our little family unit.  The kids did awesome and I think the adults did too!  We got a membership to the aquarium (seeing as the cost was about equal to the admission to the zoo) so we plan on returning when it is cooler and maybe staying a whole weekend instead of one night.

I think that I’ll end there.  There are many things to blog about and I am hoping to be better about it.  But there are no guarantees.  But I will try!

More conversation from the back seat...

Me: Hey guys I'm rolling the windows up because the fields are stinky.
GJ: NO WINDOW DOOOOOWWWWNNNN!
EJ: No Gracie, Mommy had to roll them up because the fields are stinky.
GJ: Why?
EJ: Because the fields are STINKY.
GJ: WHyyyyyyy?
EJ: NO, I'm NOT going to tell you why ANYMORE.
GJ: WHHHHYYYYY???
EJ: NO, I'm NOT TELLING YOU WHY ANYMORE!
GJ: WWHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY????????????
EJ: I AM NOT TELLING YOU WHY ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!
GJ: I don't care.
I almost drove off the road from laughing so hard.  I think Elijah was rendered speechless.  Grace is sort of become a little bit of a sass!
