Ah, the lawn

Maybe we are lazy.  Maybe we are total wusses when it comes to the heat of summer.  Maybe we were ambitious to think that half an acre was a good idea.  Maybe we feel like spending time as a family is more important that taking care of the yard.  Whatever the reason, we let the yard go.  We have maybe cut the outside of the fence twice since we got it.  We haven't touched the ditch in quite sometime.  I did mow half the back yard about a month ago.  So the whole yard looked less than good.  There were ant hills EVERYWHERE and rumors of snakes slithering and let's not forget... the stupid spiders. sigh.  So after much talk, we decided on hiring a lawn service.  I have not been so happy about a decision in a long time.  They did an AMAZING job!  There were three guys and lots of fancy equipment.  The whacked the ditches (downing several long leaf pines that had sprung up), mowed, whacked around the fence, weeded a few of our flower beds, edged our driveway, and took care of the ants.  It was so nice to not have to worry about it anymore and to have our back yard back!  We haven't decided if we are going to hire them as a year round service.  It would be nice to not have to worry about the lawn anymore.  We could put our energy into working on our gardens which is something we can do all together as a family.  I think that was my biggest problem with the whole mowing thing.  It's a one person job, so the other person is stuck inside with the kids and usually a ton of housework.  While the lawn was being taken care of we got the house ready for my folks arrival and played with the kids and it was much easier.  I guess our weekends are sacred and we really don't want to spend a ton of time cutting the lawn.  Anyway, we are happy with the result and as it is almost time to not have to worry about it anymore... we'll see!

Off to get ready for the parent's arrival!

We feel the same way about yardwork. Yes, there's value to it for sure and the end result is usually very pleasant. But it takes time away from family!! I hear ya, Earth sista!! Hey, can I see some yard pictures?!!?
