Hello to a New Site!

Well, I haven't finished transitioning the old blog over, but I'm going to go on and start posting over here.  So here it is!  I will go back and catch up the majority of the summer, but today I wanted to post about our day.  but first good news about the tooth.  It is coming out on Tuesday.  And then I will get an impression and get one tooth made.  The dentist I met with yesterday was super nice and said she had real problems as a dentist putting a bridge on my front teeth.  She said she would rather do an implant, but understood that I didn't have the money to have one.  She said there was another option that would allow me the option of an implant in the future without compromising the integrity of the other two teeth.  So we are going with this option.  It's a fake tooth that is bonded to the other two teeth, but with minimal destruction to the teeth.  I was weeping over the fact that this is going to cost almost 2500 dollars less than the other option and that the other !#%(%^&$% dentist didn't even mention it! GRRRRR!  But also YAY!  The bad news is that it takes a lab in Chicago about a week to make the tooth, so I will be toothless for about a week... but alas.  I'm willing to deal with that!

Today was quite a day.  Kristie asked me yesterday to join her, Dave, Scott (Dave's brother,) and L on a day trip to Bald Head Island.  I've wanted to go and play here, but I never looked into it and didn't really know anything about what to do there, etc. So after okaying it with Jerry we were there!  We met at Kristie's house so I could follow them over to Southport at 9 and we just caught the 10:00 ferry over to the island.

Always a big hit!  Only certain cars are allowed on the island, so we rented a golf cart to get around and explore.  I think my kids enjoyed this more than anything.  And I admit, having someone else drive me around all day was really nice!

So our first stop was the Old Baldy Lighthouse.  We choose not to go up or in, but it was fun to be close to it.  Since climbing the 9876436 stairs at the Currituck Lighthouse I had no interest in doing that again, but Elijah would have jumped at the chance, best to remove temptation.  We also went into a little church that was next to the lighthouse and it was quite peaceful.

Next we decided a little nature was in order.  So we took a little walk out over/into the marsh.  There were MANY fiddler crabs.  Some of which are maybe a little too tame around humans and did not scurry as quickly as, um, ehem, SOME in our group may have liked.  There was much laughing and shrieking and jumping involved!  Ahh, good times!

Looking for crabs crabs crabs EVERYWHERE!

After a quick bite to eat and potty break, we continued our adventure.  We went in search of the beach (maybe?) and ended up in a private drive.  So on our way back we saw a little bridge with a path.  Decided to take it... I mean why not?  It was quite nice.  It took us to a small tower... with rules... But it was really nice and cool at the top.  We decided it was much nicer than the lighthouse simply because it was not 7000 degrees at the top!

tower rules ah, my son the boob man...

The next stop was the beach!  The beach here is REALLY nice.  The waves weren't too rough despite the rip tide and high surf warnings.  Not that we were going in above our ankles.  Elijah played in the sand while Grace and I got our feet (and a bit more) wet.  It was a nice way to cool off.  We played for a bit before heading out again.

sand baby! water baby!

Grace and Elijah were both real troopers.  I knew that nap would be skipped today and they were both REALLY good.  Grace did knock out for about 10 minutes in my arms.  Poor thing.  But when she woke up, she was chipper and happy... so who could ask for more?

                         sweet pea knocked out!

After beach time we hit nature again.  This time to see a big oak tree.  Of course, the whole island is full of live oaks, but I think there was something about this one... I just don't really know what...hmmm....  ANYWAY, we walked and saw it.  Then it was time to catch the ferry home.

Kristie and Scott very kindly went and brought our cars around to the terminal and we loaded up and headed home.  We were sun drenched and tired, but isn't that what makes a good summer day?

Ummm. Oops. I made a typo in my original comment so I deleted it, but now it tells the world that there was a comment there that was deleted by author. I forgot Blogger did that! Anyway, I fixed the typo and am copying/pasting my original comment below!

Woo hooooooo! Welcome to the new blog address! Selfishly, I am thrilled, because I can use my "Blogger" ID to comment. With your old blog, I had to sign in with my "Live" ID and I could never remember it! LOL!

Love this post. The day was fantastic and I am SO glad you guys came! We had so much fun. I especially love the commentary about the crabs (EEK!), and the picture of me and Elijah at the top of the tower! ROFL! Plus, I didn't even know Gracie conked out! All the kids were SO good, despite the no-nap! It was just a wonderful time.

WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
