Vacation part 2

I have sort of already touched on this part of our vacation here, but I thought that some of the fun points should be more defined.
After a tearful goodbye to Jerry, Dad drove me and the kids to the river.  Mom drove their car.  I appreciate my dad driving.  I think that a two hour drive would have been much LONGER, had I had to do it alone.
Besides the dogs, the kids were happy to be there.  We walked down to the river.  And while it was SUPER low, the kids were introduced to the amazing coldness and awesomeness of the Edisto River.

The kids did great in the water.  Elijah jumped of the float to my mom in the water.  Grace jumped once, but mom wasn’t ready for her and she went under.  Mom had her in a second, but it freaked Gracie out. So she held on to her little floatie and swam around with it.  The river is REALLLLLLY low.  I’ve seen it low before, but never like this.  It’s sad.

The first float is behind mom.  It’s all cock-eyed because the ladder is stuck in the mud.  Where mom is standing used to be at least up to her waist.  She is standing in the middle of the river.

The sandy area where the kids are standing should be under water.  It should be what is considered the “baby pool".  The pole that holds the line marking off the baby pool is about 3 feet farther up than where the kids are standing.  Pretty sad.  Most of that sand SHOULD be under water.
I didn’t get any jumping pics because 1) I don’t have a water proof camera, 2) I had my hands full of kids, and 3) we were constantly swatting horseflies…which we all wound up with bites anyway, but ya know.
I think that the kids really would have enjoyed the whole week.  But I was exhausted and I am pretty sure everyone else in our traveling party was too!  Marjorie and David were excellent hosts and though our trip was cut short, we had a good time.
On to Black Mountain…
